Do AP classes actually help?

Would taking a bunch of AP classes actually help during college applications? What if you get B’s in the AP classes? Would colleges look down on that or cut you some slack? Also, do colleges like Johns Hopkins University look at your unweighted or weighted???

Saves you money when you get 3,4 or 5 on the test and skip college classes

they look both weighted and unweighted.
APs are very important, especially if you want to go to Johns Hopkins. take as many AP as you can, but make sure you dont take too many and get bad grades. Bs in AP classes arent bad but it wont be good enough to get into Johns Hopkins

It also shows rigorous course load.

Your competition at top schools will have gotten As in AP classes.
IMO, if you’re going to get a bunch of Bs in AP classes to the point where it makes your GPA really low, it’s probably better to take mostly regular classes. But it’s probably not as hard to get As as you think.

If you get a B once in a while its worth the rigor

Rigorous courses are probably more important. Colleges want to see you challenging yourself. Take the AP classes you’re actually interested in; you’ll get better grades if the class matters to you, APs are challenging but interesting if you’re learning about something that draws you in. In my experience, the tests were much easier than the class. And at schools like John Hopkins, I would expect you’d have to take at least a few APs to compete, but there are actually people in this universe who have taken seventeen. SEVENTEEN! Don’t go overboard, but do stretch yourself (IF you’re willing to put in the work).
