Hello,
I want to take the ACT because it sounds easier than the SAT. However, I heard that it’s a very academic test, and that it mostly tests what is taught in school. Will AP Classes help raise my score (AP English, etc.)?

Well… It might help you in your English or Math, but for reading and science it’s basically just practice and practice and practice… you get my point.

And for math or english… math you just need to take trig… no need to take AP BC calc just to make a 36 on math, for english, just make sure you touch up on your grammer rules

The ACT is designed to fit a variety of student’s profiles. They have to design questions of ubiquitous high schools knowledge. So dumb kids and smart kids are fair game. But if you are ready to do an AP class, it should go well.

I definitely think taking AP Lit helped my SAT and ACT scores.
after taking that class, my scores went like this:
730—>800 CR
31—>36 E
33—>36 R
Plus, it was helpful for SAT II Lit.
This is the only AP class my school offers for juniors, so I can’t say much about other subjects.

AP English definitely helps in English and Reading. AP Calc does not help you at all because ACT Math does not cover that advanced materials.

Actually, AP science (bio/physics/chem) helps you because you can skip some passages in science. I took AP Chem, and it helps me a lot in chemistry-related science passages.

^ ooh auch… I think maybe that’s because it forces you to understand, not to read in time or something? But… reading’s… reading… so you never know

Thank you everyone. I am going to self-study for all the science APs since my school does not offer them, and on the practice tests I always run out of time for the science section and reading section.

AP Physics, if you have a good teacher, will help you immensely on the science portion. The science act is all about logic and reasoning which you practice in physics quite a bit.

The ACT is NOT an academic test at all… The SAT is much more academic — ACT tests critical thinking skills more than what has been learned. At least in my opinion.
