Do AP scores have an effect on college apps?

So I got a 2 on my AP Bio exam… and this is my first ever AP exam that I took. What is the purpose of taking AP exams? Are they as significant as SAT II scores?

bumpppppppp

They’re pretty much for college credit (usually a 4 or a 5 depending on the school), college placement, and personal benefit. Should you choose to send the AP score report, colleges will see the scores. But, keep in mind that they aren’t too important, as colleges understand AP classes aren’t available to everyone. Your gpa, sat score, extra curriculars, and SAT II’s are all more important. I went to this open event with several admissions officers from Penn, Harvard, Stanford etc. and they all said that SAT II’s are “more indicative of success/achievement in a certain subject” than it’s corresponding AP test.

Definitely not as significant as a SAT II, BUT a good AP score in a course that is on your transcript shows that you are capable of handling college material.

ah thank you!
