I don’t understand how I scored a 4 on AP English Lang but in my SAT, I scored a between 400-500 in my reading and English part. Can anyone help me how this happen?

AP English Lang is primarily weighted onto the frq’s, and if you’re a strong writer those essays will have more bearing on your score than the MC
I also did not-so-good on the SAT CR but got a 4 on Lang.

I think SAT scores are more ‘specific’ towards what you really got right, whereas AP scores represent very broad raw scores. For instance, getting 10 wrong on the SAT CR may be a 600, while getting 9 wrong may be a 620. On an AP, odds are, getting 9 or 10 wrong will be a 4 or 5 regardless.

So I’m sure if the APs were scored more specifically, you’d find a better correlation between the two.

(Sorry for my awkwardly worded answer, it’s kinda weird/hard to explain)

Honestly, it really varies from person to person. The AP test can’t really be used to correlate nice scores on the SAT because they’re completely different tests, and as previously stated, have different weight with the writing portion.
One might find the SAT hard in comparison to the AP or even the ACT English/Reading sections. It all depends on the type of test taker you are… I received a 680 on my SAT (not the best), but received a 5 (AP) and a 34 (ACT English). It just depends on what type of test you’re good at taking. Clearly, you may not be the best at the SAT, so try the ACT for your standardized testing.

Just remember that SAT doesn’t reflect intelligence, and that the two exams measure completely different aspects of knowledge. Then again, I did get a 490 on CR and a 2 on the Language & Comp exam… I don’t necessarily have the best reading comprehension on this side of the block, so actually, don’t listen to me, lol.

Not really. Both tests are weighed differently and they both test different things.

The essays make up 55% of the test, I wouldn’t call them “primarily weighted,” Lol.

There is no correlation.

There is probably some correlation, but nothing that I think would be significant.

I feel like AP Classes can prepare you for the SAT better (particularly the CR and Writing portions in AP Lang).

The correlation is there, but it’s not overwhelming. The top 10% of my class usually gets about a 4 or 5 on all their AP tests, but the average SAT score for the top 10% is somewhere around 1900.

This is very true. When I took the SAT in May 2010, I had just taken the AP English Literature and Composition test, and the SAT Reading section felt easy by comparison. I ended up scoring about ~100 points higher than my PSAT equivalent.

They better not lol

I think they somewhat do. I got a 4 on AP English Lang. and a 700 on SAT CR. So my AP score sort of reflects my SAT.
