Do AP's really help that much?

I’ve heard from a lot of people that most AP tests only count for “empty” credit and it won’t really help you that much in college unless it’s the English, a language, or Math. I’m a senior and will probably be going to either UCI or USC ( if I get admitted to USC!) next fall. Would having all these AP tests help me? ( will be majoring in Business Admin or Business Information Management)

World History - will be taking
Calculus AB - will be taking

US Government - will be taking

Thank you!

It really depends on both your high school and your college. At my college, they only accept up to 5, and they are accepted as credits but not toward a distribution requirement or major, it is more of a safety net of credits if you need to take a semester off or take only 3 classes one semester and still want to graduate on time. But, at some colleges they can really help to get you ahead. Some of my friends at state schools entered as sophomores because of their AP credits.

In terms of preparing for college level work, that depends on what your teachers in high school had you doing. Knowing material can never hurt, and learning to write is also important, but how much if applicable to college can really vary.

Try putting “AP credit” in each school’s web site search box. But note that in some cases, the university does not have a uniform AP credit policy, so that AP credit usefulness depends on the division or major.
