<p>I am in 8th grade, and I have a 93 overall average and am in NJHS. I take regular classes with a 86 average in math, an 101 science average, an 93 in english and social studies and I have a 92 average in french. I just got into honors social studies, french and english next year. I’m not the best student since I stuggle in math and get average new york state test grades. I dont play any musical intsturment, but I do ballet, lacrosse, and cheerleading. Also I participate in best buddies. Can an average student like me even get accepted to Deerfield? </p>

<p>I don’t think there is a set answer for this because everyone will have diffrent opinions.
I would consider myself an above-average average student if that makes sense.</p>
<p>I haven’t done 300 hours of community service, raised 20,000 dollers for some organization, gotten straight A’s in all honors and AP classes, won awards, or been the best player on any sports team.</p>
<p>I’m an a b student, involved in a decent amount of extracurriculers, with a few leadership positions. Nothing special, in other words, as I am sure you are able to tell; just from looking at CC alone you probably have been able to decifer the fact that competition for the top B.S. is TOUGH. Like, IVY league tough, and nobody is guarenteed to be admitted.</p>
<p>That being said, I’ve been accepted to a few of the HADES schools.
I think that what got me in is my genuine passion for the schools and passion for learning in general, my parents did not push me in any way to apply at these schools. </p>
<p>I’d recommend taking all the honors you can next year and doing well in the classes; STUDY, smart kids tend to be smart enough to get by without needing to do this only to realize that in high school you HAVE to study; i learned that the hard way when i got straight B’s and B-'s freshman year.
Write amazing essays and show your enthusiasm for wanting to go to one of these schools. WOW the interviewers with your personality and really think about the answers to the questions they ask you. The interview and essays are major components and truly can outweigh an average transcript and extracurricular list. </p>

<p>Don’t look into the HADES term so much but its a term coined by CC which stands for Hotchkiss, Andover, Deerfield, Exeter, and St Paul, however I would also include other schools that comprise of the supposed “tier 1” schools like Choate and Groton. </p>
<p>And I concur with lovely because I am a mediocre student with 3.5 gpa</p>
<p>If you are unhooked and need FA, it’s more competitive but not impossible. Some things are beyond your control, like how much money your parents make, where you live or your ethnicity and all of these things come into play to a certain extent. Take advantage of everything that your current circumstances allow you to. Be your best self, try your hardest and let the chips fall where they may. You’ll never know unless you try!</p>
