I’ve applied to a total of 8 schools thus far, and a few of them are commenting me on my essay choice. I picked the Common Application about a place where you feel content and I chose to use my literary talents as my place, indicating that the settings I write about are all my happy place. It sounds bad as I explain it, but the essay was, apparently, very well written.

Some of the letters I received back had handwritten messages on the acceptance letters themselves, in which an officer wrote me telling me how he, maybe she, loved the essay. One letter had the comments woven into the acceptance letter in a paragraph that told me how well I had done at my school.

Do colleges normally do this? I found it a bit odd-- but very flattering-- that they personally wrote me feedback on the letter itself; however, I found it more interesting that they even commented on it at all. They pointed out specific things I used in the essay, so it wasn’t a general “fill in the blank” response from them.

It just made me curious if anyone else has gotten feedback and if this happens a lot? My state of nostalgia might be diminished, but I would still love to know.
