Do college coaches use swim time converter?

Ok so 2 d3 college coaches emailed me the SCY times that I have to achieve during junior and senior year. But I never swam in a SCY pool because we dont have one here. So will they use swim time converter? Its pretty inaccurate to use the swim time converte I will say…

File that one under “It is what it is”

You could always ask the coach for his expectations of times in SCM so that you are both on the same page, but the coach can likely convert in his head.

No worries, college coaches know what a LCM or SCM time converts to in regards to a SCY time. They do not need to use a converter. Just make sure you specify what type of pool your times were achieved
You can convert for yourself just to see where your times are with regards to being recruitable

My times for example 200m breastroke (SCM) is 2:20:44 and when I convert it, its 2:07. But then I have one friend whos time is 2:34 second for SCM, and he got 2:01 second when he raised in NCSA swim meet. so idk…

SCY 2:01

These situations are apples and oranges: your friend improved his time (SCM converted) in an actual SCY race. Without SCY times, coaches will have to use the conversion tables for your SCM times. The fact that you see this conversion method as ‘pretty inaccurate’ is irrelevant.

It depends on the swimmer, especially if you are talking LCM. For swimmers with strong walls, their LCM to SCY may not be favorable. A stronger between the flags swimmer will do better in LCM potentially.

Your conversion time looks about right. Most likely your friend had a great swim and improved their time.

Here is the motivational chart from USA Swimming: https://www.usaswimming.org/docs/default-source/timesdocuments/time-standards/2020motivationaltimes-top16.pdf

Your SCM time is right between a “AAAA” time and a “AAA” time so it’s easy to find the comparable time under SCY.
