Do colleges call counselors before admission in RD?

Hey everyone,

I had a quick question. One of my friends, who was accepted early, said that a Princeton AO called his counselor, asking for his quarter grades before admitting him. This was in the early process. Do AO’s have the time to call counselors during the RD process, or would they just use a mid-year report?

I’ve constantly been absent so I’ve missed a couple exams. As a result, if one of my AO’s asks my counselor for my current grades, it may appear that I have a D in one of my classes, even though I’ve just missed an exam. We haven’t had an official “report” card released this quarter, since our grades haven’t been due (our school operates on a semester cycle).

Will I be fine?

Thanks.

You need to ask your counselor what his/her experience has been with the colleges/universities on your list.

It is not unusual for an AO to call a GC to get an update. That said, whether an AO called your GC or not, read nothing into it.

That may happen, but it does not mean any decision has been made by doing that.

You are right to worry. It’s not unusual for counselors to get calls from very selective colleges. And since you mentioned Princeton it sounds like that may be the class of colleges to which you have applied, at least for your reaches.
