Do colleges care about number of attempts?

I gave my SAT the first time and got a 1900+ score. As I plan on applying to either brown or Dartmouth I obviously gave it again. The second time I got a 2080. (750 CR, 700 math, 630 writing)
Honestly I don’t think my math score can go much higher and I’m fairly happy with my CR. It’s just I had some HORRIBLE luck in the writing sections. I’m going to give it again. Hopefully get a 2200+ score with the Superscore I can get with these components. But do colleges dislike it when students give the sat 3 times? How badly would this affect my chances at Dartmouth?
(p.s I have fairly above average extracurriculars with being on the national debate team, winning several national competitions. I’ve won local and international recognized model un conferences. Very good recommendations. Student council, president of the debates society. I did the British system so I don’t have a GPA but my o level grades were 7 As 3As and a B. A level transcripts are all As.)

Nope, 3 attempts is looked good. Brown and Dartmouth look your highest score of each test.

my friend took the sat 5 times - got a 2380 on the 5th attempt. His first attempt was a 1930. He got accepted into dartmouth.

I think there’s a consensus here that taking the test more than 3 times can raise eyebrows in admissions, raising questions that may counter the benefit of a higher score.

But 3 is acceptable?

Yep, it’s acceptable! But if you applied for example to Stanford, you will need to send all scores. This probably will be your last chance for those schools since, as @CHD2013 said, it can raise eyebrows in admissions.

Okay thanks you guys!
This has been a great confidence booster

To paraphrase tutor Green, worry about getting a high score first. Then worry about the number of attempts.

Would you rather have 2100 after three attempts or 2300 after 5 attempts?

I’ll take my chances with 2300 after 5 attempts. 2100 is not getting me into Harvard. But 2300 gives me a chance.

Thanks! Hopefully the thirds enough though coz I have to apply early decision next year :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah it shouldnt be a problem for you.

Can someone please tell me when does college board flags your result ? Like I heard if you improve your score a lot then they may flag it ?

No they won’t care. The student who gets a 2390 and then takes the test again does look s little obsessive compulsive, but normal students who keep trying good for you

Yep, sometimes it does happen.

I would most probably improve by 500 points. I am so worried because of it.

Yeah probably. It’s a high increase. Good Job!
Probably, they will offer you a retest because it’s the best way to prove that increase.
