What kind of GPA do colleges look at? Academic? Or all classes including electives like computer classes? UW and W for Academic or UW and W including electives? UW meaning unweighted and W meaning weighted.

They look at your cumulative GPA (all your classes, electives and core classes). They will look at how your school grades (is a 93 and A, a 90 an A, etc.) and they will rescale your unweighted GPA to match a standardized scale that they make. They will also take into account how hard your classes were (honors, AP, regular) and take those into consideration too.

Most colleges (ymmv, depending on school choice) look at unweighted academic (core subject) GPA. Colleges will tell you how they calculate GPA, so ask at the specific schools you are interested in. Then, they look at rigor. The A in ceramics, PE, or weight lifting is almost always thrown out.

This has been true for the competitive schools I’ve visited, and is true for our state unis, as well.

I forgot to bring up one more point: If you put a major on your application, they will look more carefully at the grades for those classes. I.E. if you say you want to be an Engineer they will scrutinize your math/science grades more, if you want to be an English major, they will scrutinize those more, etc.
