Specifically I’m talking about Providence College, I’m 1 of 9 applying this year (not sure who did ED/EA/RD, but I did EA). Based on the data from my school, they normally get 6-10 applicants from here and accept about 2-3. It’s my second top school and I love it so much, I’m really hoping to get in. Out of all 9 students applying, I’d say I’m probably the 1st or 2nd ranked when it comes to the overall app (GPA, test scores, EC’s, essays, etc). My issue is that I don’t play any sports anymore due to a pretty serious injury (I used to be a three season athlete) and I know PC likes athletes, whom I’m competing against for admission (a lot of them play soccer, basketball, etc). Will PC compare me to the other applicants from my school during the admissions process? Or do they not do that?
Nobody here works for Providence admissions so nobody can answer your question with absolute certainty. However, my general understanding is that colleges do not have quotas by school and applications are usually compared more within a region than within a particular school If you let your interest in Providence shine through in your application that is a plus. And I can’t imagine your chances for admission will be hurt for having suffered an injury that ended your HS athletic career (assuming you found other activities to take the place of sports) – in general unless one is a recruited athlete a sport counts as a good EC but nothing more.
