Do colleges note persistence?

I was placed in French freshmen year and instead of transferring out to spanish I stuck with it. Throughout my whole high school career I struggled with it, one semester I even got a D, but I’m wondering if colleges will notice my persistence?

No, I don’t believe it would make a difference. French is not seen as a better language than Spanish by colleges, and your D only shows that you messed up.

Sorry to break it to you, but the D is definately a downside no matter what way you look at it. Colleges do appreciate sticking with a foreign language for all four years, but not at the expense of your grades. Your only saving grace might be if the D was earned as an underclassman, and you’ve displayed an upward trend (improvement in grades) since then.

They like to see that you stuck with a foreign language for four years and did well in it. Ds look bad no matter what the reason is.

The longer ago the D was, though, the less it matters.
