Do Columbia students look down on CUNY students?

Do you guys consider us to be morons? Would you smirk if someone at a party told you that they attend bmcc? Would you be polite at first glance, however mock said cuny student once they are no longer in your presence?

At Columbia, many students get the impression that they are better than others. They have an ego and I would say yes based on my friends

well - i think

a) there is not a lot of interaction with many cuny students, i knew a few cuny kids, all great, but they really didn’t often come to hang out at columbia, and if i went up north, i’d usually go into Washington Heights or Central Harlem.
b) i think it is often a class (maybe race) issue - a lot of kids at columbia do come from upper crust and well in part because of naivetee, in part because of the whole private v. public thing that interactions are more repelled than invited.

c) in the end, i think i was more annoyed by the Manhattan College kids who would come to morningside heights because it was their version of ‘going downtown.’ like even if i tried to have a conversation with someone i got the whole ‘oh you go to columbia thing,’ which we sometimes forget is equally the cause of miscommunication. sure kids at columbia have a superiority complex (or are just plain ignorant), but other folks have an inferiority complex too.

nahh they are cool

It’s a different stratosphere. They’re not even on our radar. We look down on kids from Tufts and Vandy.

Seriously, we don’t even think about CUNY students. It wouldn’t cross a Columbia kid’s mind to think about whether a CUNY student is a moron or not.

First, what the flying f*** is bmcc? I’m assuming that it’s a CUNY school. If someone at a party told me that they attended bmcc, my first reaction would be “what?” and if they told me that it was a CUNY school, my second reaction would be “God, how did I sin to get stuck at a party with CUNY students.” And my third reaction would be to feel my pants leg to make sure my wallet was still in my pocket.

BMCC is Borough of Manhattan Community College. I go to high school close to it. No need to be rude about where other people go.

nahhh cuny students are cool people
and that elitist attitude wont get you far in life

C02’s response reminds me of that scene in The Fountainhead:

“Why don’t you tell me what you think of me, Mr. Roark?”

Roark replies, “But I don’t think of you.”

<3 Ayn Rand

Yes, she is quite wonderful.

sigh…

One of the funniest postings I’ve seen in awhile.

Anyway, to the OP, it really depends on which Columbian you run into. As to every place, you will have your jerks and non-jerks…

Don’t waste time worrying what others think about you, unless, of course, you are sitting down during an interview.

Dude, stop. You’re acting like a queen.

To chime into the OP’s concern, I’d be too worked up trying to compete against myself and others to worry about other people outside of my own school.
