Do ECs make or break you?

I was wondering if it would help my application to UPenn (Wharton), if they knew that I joined Mu Alpha Theta this year. I joined after I turned in my application, so they have no idea. Also, I was the coordinator for this year’s black history month program. Is this worth calling them and telling them or writing a letter, or is it not that important?

It might help but I think it’s too late now. Decisions have been made/are almost finished. If you want, you could fax it and if they get it, it’ll help. If not, oh well.

i dont think it would have any effect at this point as they are in their committee meetings to make their final decisions and those updates aren’t significant enough to boost your chances

Okay. I guess it is too late now. If anything do you think if I emailed my regional director it would be okay?

go ahead and do so
if you dont & your results are negative, youll wish you had

True. So I emailed my regional director, to ask if it would be too late to send this in. When she emails me back, if she says that its okay to send it, then I will have my counselor write a letter and fax it, or possibly email it to the regional director, who can forward it to admissions. Thanx again for the feedback.

just fax it anyway, they might not reply cuz they are very busy

Thanx ns347. I’ll make sure my counselor types up the letter, and faxes it asap.

Your counselor doesn’t need to do it - you can write it and fax it, I did this for a scholarship thing, all of my schools basically told me to fax it (except a couple which I called and they said email) but if you just call the school they’ll tell you. Black history month could be important if you’re a URM and showing the diversity you’ll bring to the school. In any case make sure you include Name, DOB, maybe SSN, maybe address, depending on the schools I forgot which one uses which to match things up, but this way there’s no way they won’t be able to if you include it all…

hey aaron, should I type up something sophisticated, or should it just simply indicate the role I played in the black history show? And yes, I am a URM.

whats urm mean? underrepresented minority? does being indian count?

yeah thats what URM means. I am african american, and i know being hispanic counts. Howeve,r i am not too sure about indian

no i dont think indian count, but i am not sure.

-I am an URM too(dominican)

nope asians (including you indians, dont try to deny it) = ORM, over represented minorities

we make up less than 1% of the american population.oh wells. a minority is still a minority so it shud help a little bit right?

No, it won’t help at all. Affirmative action sets Asians and Asian Americans at a disadvantage (see: Princeton). Unless you’re American Indian, your heritage won’t help you.

I doubt Mu Alpha Theta is gonna help you unless you are an officer or something. Everyone is in Mu Alpha Theta at my school and one year of it isn’t significant.

Okay scientist. But is the black history coordinator significant enough to report?

honestly, if I you still haven’t reported it yet, b/c I know you asked about it a few days ago, I think it would be pointless now to do so. It’s so close to decision day that I doubt it would have any bearing on your decision. It’s not significant enough to change anything. Not trying to be mean or anything…just telling you the truth.

Hey tctennis, I faxed it today. The reason I didn’t fax it after I posted is b/c it was the weekend, and I wasn’t sure if UPenn admissions would be open to receive it. However, now that I have it faxed, hopefully it will help me out. By the way, does UPenn send out id notification w/ the username and password as they complete reviewing each application individually? I haven’t received mines yet and people have been getting them at different times.
