Do Employers Look Down On Party Schools Such as ASU For Example?

Hey guys.

So we all know how schools like Arizona State and Louisiana State typically have a bad reputation for their “party scene.” And also have the stereotypical reputation of having “bad academics.”

But in the end, if I graduate from a school like Arizona State, LSU, or any other massive party school with a bad reputation, would many employers look down on my education? (Not trying to bash any specific schools like ASU. Just trying to help a friend out). If anybody has some answers, please let me know!

Thanks

Employers may not recruit from the general student body. They may look for honors college / honors program graduates or for those who majored in a specific area and may require a minimum GPA in that major or overall.

For example: Students in Barrett Honors College at ASU probably get recruited for internships / externships & jobs that are not available to the rest of the students unless seeking a specific major area of study (such as engineering, computer science, accounting, etc.).

Big 4 accounting firms recruit audit/assurance students from all sorts of colleges & universities including these two. But they probably will require a minimum GPA in order to get an interview or to receive consideration for a job.

Some universities, like the University of Mississippi, have specialized programs and masters degrees which guarantee employment & even award students full cost of attendance including tuition, fees, room & board, & travel. In some of these jobs, the student can pick from locations throughout the US or throughout the world.

But, if you are just a party animal taking the easiest courses available, then employment opportunities may be limited to the least desirable types of work.

P.S. The best advice is to make the most out of any opportunity which you are given. Basically, stay healthy, be on time, & work hard. Be polite & respectful of others. Learn to listen.

GPA matters too. Potential employers may very well assume an inverse relationship between GPA and amount of partying. And yes, they can weed candidates out through honors colleges, cum laude designations on diplomas, or personal referrals through familiar professors.
