Do European schools have the equivalent of a spring break?

Just wondering… looking into studying abroad somewhere in Europe (probably Netherlands or England) during Spring '15 and was wondering about this. I want to travel some while abroad, so hoping such a break exists!

My daughter was in Amsterdam this fall, and there was a break built in, but classes also follow ‘half semesters’ at the University, so 1) check with each individual program because hers, for example, did a combination of Univ Amsterdam’s classes along with classes the program offered; 2) if you Google college’s in different countries and their websites, you can get an idea of calendars based on past semesters and 3) when picking/planning your classes, try to schedule them so you have four-day weekends. My daughter was contemplating a Friday class, but she knew that would cut into traveling, and in the end her classes were M/T/W. That left lots of chances to go to other countries, and she visited several with classmates. She did four different trips on four different long weekends, including an ‘extra’ long one when there was a short break between the semester ‘half’ sessions. Good luck with your research! :)

In England they do, but it is later in the year. Anything from two to six weeks surrounding Easter (March-April). But as noted above, you need to check with the individual school/program.

In the UK, and elsewhere, I presume, there are the Easter holidays, which will give you three weeks or a month off uni.

However, it doesn’t carry the connotations of people going off for a fortnight of debauchery in Cancun, or even the Balearics. Most people will go home to see their families for all or most of Easter, though that doesn’t mean that you can’t go abroad, and you may find that you have work to do over Easter, so don’t book anything until you know your workload.
