Do financial aid offers come with acceptances letters?

Do financial aid offers usually come with your acceptance letter? I’m look to transfer and the aid that I’ll be offered will be one of the deciding factors in where I end up.

For incoming frosh, the FA info can come around the same time or later. some schools have been accepting students for Fall 2012 for a few months now. Those FA offers may not be seen until March/April.

However, you’re a transfer student. FA offers usually come much later…often in late spring after the incoming frosh offers are complete. Also, be aware that transfer students usually get poor FA offers. There’s only a few schools that give a lot of aid to transfer students. The best aid is usually reserved for incoming frosh.

What school do you attend now and where are you applying? Do you know what your likely EFC is? Have you used the schools’ net price calculators (indicating that you’re a transfer student?)

What schools do you know of that offer decent aid to transfer students? I’d like to get into MIT, but if I can’t afford to pay for a state school I certainly won’t be able to afford MIT’s price tag.

I don’t know if MIT accepts many/any transfer students.

Cornell gives good aid to transfer students WHO QUALIFY for the aid. However, if the school thinks your parents can pay more than they can, that won’t do you any good.

Do you have a non-custodial parent? If so, his income will count as well.

According to CollegeBoard MIT accepts ~3.9% of transfer applicants.

I do not have a non-custodial parent. My mom has recently started making more than she did last year, but I would guess that her annual income is < $30,000.

Is your father deceased? If not, how much does he earn?

Do you have the stats for MIT, Cornell and the other few schools that meet need for transfer students?

What state are you in?

What schools are on your list?

MIT transfers…
Applied: 459
Admitted: 18
Enrolled: 18

Yikes…I imagine that those who were accepted must be hooked in some way.

Yes, my father is deceased.

I’m studying in Canada right now and I’ll be transferring to a community college in Florida (where I’ll be an in-state student) after this school year. I’ll spend at least a year there finishing up my basic studies and then I’ll be looking to transfer to another school.

I plan on applying to MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, and CalTech. It’s possible that I could get accepted to one of these schools, but it’s not terribly likely. Other schools I’d consider include NC State and UF.
