Do Foreign Languages Ever Annoy You?

Do any foreign languages kind of annoy you when you hear them? I mean, not to the point where you can’t stand it or anything that bad, but just kind of annyoing I also don’t mean all the time too.

This thread probably sounds really bad, but I am just wondering.

Yes, they do. On one level I think they’re kind of cool, but if people are talking around me in a language I don’t understand I get pretty annoyed.

I also absolutely despise learning them.

They can be annoying , but English is a really hard language to learn because of all the spelling exceptions !

Portuguese does. I speak Spanish, and Portuguese sounds like some strange love child of Spanish and French to me.

I think Chinese gets to me the most.

For example, on the bus back to my apartment the other day I was basically sitting between 3 Chinese girls having a conversation. Now, 3 girls rambling on about something stupid and pointless is normally bad enough, but it was even worse in Chinese.

English.

I don’t want to know about your issues, thanks.

I love languages and speak/understand a few. However, I absolutely can’t stand German because the language just always sounds so angry.

French also gets on my nerves. Not sure why for that one.

I guess I’m the only one, but no, foreign languages do not annoy me. I like listening to another language because it fascinates me hearing a form of non-material culture. I love languages especially from the middle eastern and europe areas.

^I second that. I love foreign languages. Some are more pleasant to the ears than others, but they’re all fascinating.

I love hearing/learning foreign languages. I guess it’s because I used to live in such a multicultural area and really got used to it, and now I live in a backwoods kind of area. I feel more at home in non-English speaking areas/countries honestly.

I love hearing foreign languages. I live in NYC and hear foreign languages all the time and I always get excited hearing French and Korean because I can actually understand what they’re saying as long as they’re not going on some rant or talking about something like theoretical physics.

European languages always fascinating to hear. I guess some people don’t like branching out of their cultural comfort zone though…

Actually, English annoys me very much, especially English spoken with grating or whiny American accents. This is coming from an native English-speaking American. It’s a breath of fresh air when I get to listen to a beautifully-spoken foreign language for a change.

I love listening to foreign languages, especially German (I’ve studied the language for about 5-6 years, and I think it’s great).

Hebrew is the worst: it sounds like people coughing up chicken bones in their throats.

Nope. Numerous members of my family speak different languages and i’ve just grown up with it. I personally want to learn to speak at least 1 foreign language. Maybe french or italian

Vietnamese. It’s my family’s language and I can speak it, but most people who speak this language sound like a cheese grater, my family included. Rarely have I heard anyone speaking this language that didn’t sound rough or scratchy.

When people speak Chinese around me cos like everyone speaks Chinese for some reason, I feel lonely, cos nobody speaks Italian for me to talk to outside of class :/

I’m a French double major and I plan on studying German and Spanish while in school. I love languages.

They don’t annoy me, but I do get very frustrated with my lack of communication skills.

I only hate that I can’t understand enough to call myself bilingual in Indonesian or French. I like learning languages, mainly Indonesian, French, and Hindi. Maybe Arabic one day (I’m a failure Muslim haha)
