Do grades from a college course taken in HS affect admissions or go to your college transcript?

I am going to be a senior in the fall and this summer I’m taking a java programming course at a local community college.
I’m really taking it to get some programming experience because I’m considering applying for a CS major, but if I want to transfer the credits from the course to the college I attend, will the grade I get transfer to my college transcript as well? Also, will admissions officers see the grade I get and consider it in the admissions process? I’m not sure that I’m going to get an A in the class, and since I’m taking AP Comp Sci in the Spring anyways at my school I’d rather sacrifice the credit than have the grade negatively affect me. Thanks!

Different schools have different policies. But it is very typical for schools to accept the credit without recording the grade or applying the grade to a student’s GPA.

It’s also possible that your university will not even accept the credit. They can be finicky about that stuff.

It depends on the colleges involved. I made a thread about this topic a while ago and learned that the grades you receive in dual-enrollment classes won’t necessarily factor into the GPA calculated by other colleges. My university doesn’t attach letter grades to transferred classes.

Yes, because you’ll be required to submit transcripts from every college you’ve attended (even if you don’t transfer the classes).

@WasatchWriter @halcyonheather
thank you, do either of you know what the policy is for the UC schools?

It looks like they don’t attach grades to transferred courses unless they were transferred from another UC institution. This is the policy at [UC Davis](Reading Your Official Transcript):

@halcyonheather
Your statement about having to submit transcripts for every college I’ve attended sounds more like a policy for college transfer students… even though I’m taking a college course right now, I didn’t think I qualify as a transfer, since I’m still in high school… how does that work?

I belive so, colleges want to see how well you will do in their courses and City college courses are a good indicator of that. Remember colleges take into account how difficult college courses are and one sub par grade won’t affect your chances of acceptance. A friend of mine got a C in AP Calc and they attend Columbia
Best of Luck

You won’t be considered a transfer student if you’re just coming out of high school. Some colleges might still ask you to submit transcripts. In the case of UC schools, it looks like they won’t ask you to submit college transcripts until after they’ve accepted you:
