Do high school grades determine freshman college GPA?

<p>Do high school grades determine freshman college GPA? Like if I took AP English in high school and got a B, do they take the B and start me off in college freshman year with a 3.0? Or do they take my AP score (4) and just exempt me?</p>

<p>They take your AP score and exempt you. The actual grade your teacher gives you has no bearing on your college GPA. Depending on your college, of course, you’ll be given credit for the class and placed in a higher level. E.g., you’ll skip freshman comp and go straight into a literature sequence.</p>

<p>Thanks for the clarification. I was curious because it seems like my junior high electives counted towards my high school GPA. Maybe I just misread it.</p>

<p>Well, sometime junior high classes do. I took Algebra in 8th grade and got hs credit for it, but anything not taken at your college is transfer credit, and therefore not counted in GPA.</p>

<p>If it’s not considered in the college GPA, does it still show at your college transcript as a grade, or just credits, eg: You’ve completed 5.0/5.0 of the required credits in Econ.</p>
