Do hs students who go to the CCs 1st normally transfer to better 4yr colleges?

<p>Hello,
I’m trying decide on whether or not I should go to a Community College first before transferring to a 4 year university.</p>

<p>I’m a senior now and my high school gpa is a B+ grade. The reason why I’m thinking about going to a community college first is because I feel like it’s a smart choice financially, since if i choose to go to a 4yr university right away i’ll owe close to $43,000, and I also feel like if I do really well at the CC I’ll be able to receive better scholarships and get accepted to better colleges than i did as a hs senior. </p>

<p>Is this true???..Do average hs students who go to CCs normally get accepted to better universities with better scholarships than they did as a hs student???</p>

<p>If I do go to the Community College first then I will be in their honors program and, thus, take honor classes as well as regular. Also, I will have full time work experience pertaining to my major, since the community college I plan on going to requires it (experience that most 4yr students won’t have, especially as a freshman…another reason why a CC might be better). </p>

<p>In your opinion, will I be able to earn all 'A’s easily at a CC? When I transfer to a 4-year university after Community College will I be behind? Is the work load a lot more at 4yr universities???</p>

<p>Some do. Some don’t. It really depends on the student – one likely profile of a successful community college student who transfers to a more selective university than s/he could get into as a freshman is one who got better study habits too late in high school to bring his/her high school grades up.</p>

<p>All of these answers are “it depends” based on you, your intended major, the community college, and the university you are targeting.</p>

<p>If you are in CA, some community colleges have guaranteed transfer to the top UCs like UCLA.</p>

<p>I don’t think UCLA has ‘guaranteed’ transfer. I think their transfer acceptance rate is like ~30%</p>

<p>I would recommend waiting for the aid offers to roll in to see which makes more sense financially. It’s doubtful you will get great merit as a transfer since most scholarships are targeted toward freshmen, but with a B+ I’m not sure you’ll get much right out of HS. Going to a CC will allow you to save up $ that can go toward your last two years of college. Work the numbers for each school and see what your options look like.</p>
