Do I bother studying for finals that won't affect my grade?

Um, my final grades definitely show up on my transcript. I’m still not studying (except for physics >.>), but yeah, they count.

not always. i know for a fact that our transcripts don’t include quarter grades, midterms or final exams. its just the semester grade.

^Ditto hpa10.

Just because your school sends out those grades, smart cookie, it does not mean that every school does.

My high school transcript only shows semester grades. No exam grades are shown, let alone quarter grades.

My transcript only shows year grades.

smart.cookie and lookbeyond, I don’t know where you’re getting this but colleges only see your semester and year grades. Your report cards show your final grades, but not transcripts.

Besides, as every college will tell you, they only CARE about your semester grades, if by some chance they do show up on your school’s transcript (which I’ve never heard of in American schools.)

At my school, and the vast majority of other high schools, only semester grades show up. Of course, you should make sure that this is the case at your school before you throw any finals though.

^ Our high school sends our semester grades, yes, but all of the grades used to calculate those grades (in other words, all the quarter grades and exam grades are visible). And yes, my high school is in the US.

^ That makes no sense.

Is your semester grade shown? Why would schools bother to send the same information twice? Your final and quarter grades are what are used to calculate your semester grades. Your semester grade is a combination of those grades. Therefore, if the OP can fail the exam and still get an A, then why bother studying? Colleges do NOT see the finals grades.

On my official transcript the 1-4 marking period grades are shown, finals and midterm grades are shown, and semester grades are shown. That is just how it is.

roman- I know in NY they show regents grades, so yeah, some schools do send out grades on finals. And my 10th grade transcript (only year in high school in NY) also showed quarter grades.

Apparently parts of Michigan do this as well, but again, most schools do not.

For my final semester of high school, I had a 96 or so in my Honors Physics class and I think I needed a D to keep my A. I complained that my Honors Physics class didn’t require any extra special thinking (some project assigned had nothing to do with applying our knowledge of physics) and that it wasn’t really an “honors” class compared to maybe an Honors Physics class in another setting.

Anyway, I ended up getting a B on my final, and I felt silly because I had complained that it was so easy. Oh well.

I do not get how people say cramming does not work? I cram even if I know the stuff and it always helps ALOT!
