Do I even have a chance @ these schools?

Hello everyone!! I was wondering if my college list is realistic for me. I’m Female, Guyanese, I live in NYC, and I want to become and Obstetrician. I just finished my Junior year and I know my stats probably aren’t good enough to go the schools that I want to go to. So, do I have a chance at these schools and do my regents count toward anything when applying for college?

SAT’s: Verbal: 520

I’m taking the SAT’s over again

SAT 2’s: None, but I plan on taking bio, math level 1 (maybe), U.S hist or Global

My College List:

SUNY @ Buffalo
SUNY @ Stony Brook

Penn State (Maybe)
Hunter College
York College

Please be honest, what chance do I have and do you have any suggestions as to where would be good for me?

I’m sorry, but I really don’t understand your GPA…
Isn’t it supposed to be out of 4.0?

It can be out of 100% too. anyway, I think for brown nyu and cornell you need to bring up your sat about 200 each, then that will turn the whole thing

Yeah. The 82.44 is my average, I’m not sure what my GPA is out of 4.0.

I don’t want to say no…because you seem like a nice person. I would say raise the SATs a lot and you have a shot! GL

Here is a chart for the class of 2010 at Brown – numbers applying, admitted, and enrolled with various SAT scores and class ranks. This should give you some idea of what you up up against. (You don’t report your class rank, so I don’t know how this plays out for you.)

http://■■■■■■■.com/mywwq</a></p>

Unfortunately it lists math and verbal separately. So I don’t know if anyone with both scores like yours (you don’t even report the math one) was admitted. In other words, the folks with verbal scores in the 500’s might have had perfect math scores or vice versa – or some major hook for that matter.

Have you tried a practice test of the ACT? If you do well on that, you need not even submit the SAT I (and for a number of schools, this substitutes for the SAT IIs as well). Some people do better on one test than the other.

Thanks a lot, that chart helped. What about the other colleges on my list? Does anyone have any suggestion on other colleges?

not to be an ass because you seem like a nice person, and my average isn’t much higher than yours but a 2.7/4.0 gpa isn’t going to really get you into Cornell, Nyu,barnard, or brown. Also your SATs and EC’S aren’t helping you out much either. In my opinion aim a little lower and try your luck on the ACT.

his gpa is 3.3…

How does she have a 3.3,
the scale is
70-79 -1.5-2.4C
80-89-2.5-3.4 B
90-100-3.5+ A

MEANING SHE HAS somewhere between a 2.7-2.9

The SUNYs might be your best bet, but you’ll STILL have to raise your SAT, and showing improvement with your GPA could make a big difference too this year! Good Luck!

Thanks to all of you for your help and opinions!!!

As a fellow NY’er i feel her pain in trying to explain an “out of 100” gpa :stuck_out_tongue:
this will help http://www.princetonreview.com/college/research/advSearch/GPAConversionWindow.asp</a>
Your Chem regents and SAT’s are low for many of the schools you listed.

I dont want this to become “that” thread but seeing as how your from brooklyn… thats a plus

Being from Brooklyn is a plus for these schools? I had always been afraid that I would be at a disadvantage coming from Brooklyn with the sea of other NYers.

I’ve got a new list…the first three are still there because i rather apply than not apply at all. So what do you think ???
