Do I even have a chance?

I slacked off and let personal problems get in the way of my grades during my freshmen and sophomore year and ended up with a 2.1 GPA. I am now in my junior year and have maintained a GPA that is around 3.3-3.4 but the only “high-level” classes I’m taking are CP English 11 and Adv. Spanish 4.

I only have A’s and B’s and have left behind my bad habits but even though my counselor said he will write me a letter of recommendation for Penn State, I’m afraid I have no chance

Additional Information:
-I am enrolled in some advanced and AP classes for next year
-I am bilingual
-My dad works for the university
-Most students in my high school go to Penn State (University Park) because it is in this area
-The recommended GPA for Penn State is a 3.0
-I have been involved in school clubs
-Play guitar???

Penn State does not consider letters of rec. Are you from State College Area HS? PSU has an agreement with them and they accept lower stat students from there. But otherwise, if you are less than a 3.4 overall GPA, you will likely be offered a branch campus rather than UP. If you can do exceptionally well on your SAT’s you may have a shot. But if your GPA is under a 3.1 or so, you have virtually no chance at UP.

yes I do attend the State College Area HS

Ah…then all guesses are off. From what I understand, PSU accepts most from there regardless. Check with your advisor, but that’s what I understand.

my counselor did say that I might just be put into a different campus and my improvement will be taken into consideration, but anyways, thank you for the information
