Do I even have a shot at going to University of Michigan or Cornell?

Most of my life, I have been extremely lazy when it came to everything. My dad sends me to a private school in Michigan where I am not doing the best, my gpa so far is like 3.2 and I have my final semester left. I really need to improve and get at least up to a 3.9 by the end of my high school career but I extremely nervous and stressed. I have no honor courses available for me this year or next. I am really nervous, I don’t want to let my family down and be depressed with myself, any advice and be honest with me.

Thanks

There is no feasible way for your grade point to get to 3.9 by next year, unless I am not understanding something.

Personally… I would show this post to your parents /school counselor /social worker and get the help you need. It could be just that you have executive functional issues or something else like Adhd. I am only saying this since you are using some key words like lazy, nervous, depressed, stressed.

It seems you know your issues well and procrastination is also a tough habit to break. Being at a private school I am assuming they have the resources that you need. It’s never to late to start bettering yourself.

Good luck.

What year are you in high school?

Focus on doing the best you can, and targeting colleges that are matches. With your current GPA, Michigan and Cornell are not. That’s not the end of the world…there are lots of great schools for students with your grades and where you go to college does not predict future success. How hard you work is the key!

@sid148… Sorry… What grade are you going into in the fall? I read this as you were a rising senior. I still stand by the other comments I made.

10th Grade…

I am going into 10th

@sid148 if you are going into 10th you will be fine. Just get the help you need to make yourself successful.

Colleges like to see upward grade trends. Work hard going forward and get help when you need it.

Does your high school GPA start in 9th or 10th? In either case, you have no choice but to do your best and improve your effort. I would avoid pinning hopes to particular schools. It will be much more fun and productive if you pin your hopes to your potential and be open to following that wherever it leads you.

You still have time to get your grades up. Working to get into Cornell would make you miserable, even if you had perfect grades. You still have a decent shot at Michigan if you can score big on your SAT.
