USC is my super super reach school. I have OK grades 3.4 unweighted, which will hopefully increase by the end of this year. My ACT score is 27 and SAT is 1700-1900 (i’ll see how it works out this Oct.). So far, i’ve almost finished my application for NYU Tisch and i’m currently finishing up my portfolio short film.

So, basically my question is if USC is even worth applying to or do i not stand a chance? I know NYU Tisch recruits people with my stats with a great portfolio short film, so it’s like 50/50 criterion. Does USC emphasize more on gpa and grades more than the portfolio? Also, i don’t really have much expereince since the place i live has literally NO film programs or anything with film, so my portfolio isn’t like amazing or anything. Should i even bother applying?

yeah of course you should apply, you never know what can happen, and there is still time to bump up your stats, take the Oct Nov or even Dec SAT. Im sure you can make it possible by writing an essay worth remembering. And make sure your recs are very good

CSA is looking for excellent writing skills, ability to tell a story, creativity, imagination, talent, vision and originality. Test scores do not always show these. Do you have any other items to add to your portfolio? Have you written poetry or stories? Have you any other things to include that indicate your talents other than a short film?

Do apply. Bring up your grades and write a stellar essay. Admittance to SCA is extremely competitive. Be sure to apply to other colleges.

Honestly my portfolio is bare. I love writting but i never pursued or did anything with it (like film) because the area i live in so…medically fixated, if that makes any sense. Oh, I’m fom the Seattle, WA area by the way. I really regret not acting upon or doing something about it earlier, but the short film is really all i got. Should i submit my script and my storyboards too?

As for my grades, I calculated it and if i get a 4.0 this year, my gpa will go to a 3.5 flat so i am really aiming for that. The worst that can happen is bring my 3.403 up to a 3.45 which is still good in my opinion. My SATs scores were not so hot last year but i am positive that i can bring it up to a 1800+ with the year worth of practice. But really, it’s all going to come down to my essays. Does anyone know if the USC essay prompts are out? Last time i checked it said ERROR or something.

Anyways, i’m almost sure i will be rejected but i’m still going for it. I just hope i get into USC since it will be closer to home than NYU.
