Do I fit?

What kind of student fits in at Cornell?
I hear that they place a larger than normal emphasis on fit.
I know they are diverse and all, but where does one cross the line between diverse and fit?

There’s no specific “type” of Cornell student. We have an extremely diverse student body (in the sense of race, financial background and geographic location); people are from all walks of life, sharing the desire and ability to succeed in a challenging environment. If you come here, you’ll find your niche.

“Fit” is not a university-wide notion–it refers to the way you match up with the program you’re applying to. Animal Science? Grow up on a farm, work for a vet or volunteer at an animal shelter. Hotel School? Get some experience working at hotels or restaurants. Communications? Work for your high school radio station or newspaper. Take a summer course or get a summer internship in the field you wish to pursue. In other words, your application should demonstrate your interest and why you would “fit” into the program at Cornell. If you’re “undecided,” I have no helpful advice for you!

I am applying biochem in CAS
I have been doing research in the field of biochemistry since 9th grade.

DP, sounds like you fit. Best of luck to you.

I applied engineering. What would you say it takes to “fit” there?

Tippy top math skills and the stamina of a marathon runner. Great program, pretty intense.
