Do I go to boarding school or stay at my current high school?

If I did apply for boarding school I would be going for the 2012 year and I would be in 11th grade. Is it better for me to go to boarding school or to stay at my little school? My dream is to get into HYP. Please comment :)

That’s what I did. I finished sophomore year at a local high school in my area and will be transferring to a boarding school for my junior and senior year. Think about why you would like to transfer if you had the chance. Though the school itself is a key factor when you apply to colleges, this should be about you, and if you would personally have a better experience by changing to a boarding school. If you have a solid background at your high school right now, would you be able to give it up for a clean slate at boarding school?

@Amuchan: As a parent, I would strongly caution you to examine why it is you want to go to BS. I think seeing BS as a “stepping stone to HYP” is misguided and could potentially result in disappointment. While the top BS do send a high percentage of students to Ivies and other strong schools, it is not any guarantee.

In my opinion, if you are a strong candidate, you are a strong candidate regardless of the high school you attend.

Ditto on SevenDad. Personally, I think it makes little difference where our child finishes high school as to which college to attend. A strong candidate will bubble to the top. In some ways, it’s harder to enter HYPMS from a high end boarding school because so many kids apply. Going to boarding school with the sole/primary goal of HYPMS/college matriculation is misguided.
