Do I Have a Chance at Stanford?

<p>I plan on applying to Stanford RD because I don’t want to do Restrictive EA.</p>

<p>Public High School, Sends about 10-15 Grads to Top Schools (about 400 per graduating class)</p>

<p>GPA Wieghted: 4.01
GPA Unweighted: 3.90
School doesn’t do class rank but i’m probably in the top 4-7%</p>

<p>SAT I Math: 740
SAT I CR: 700
SAT I Writing: 690</p>

<p>AP US History: 5
AP US Govt: 5
AP English Language and Comp: 5</p>

<p>Senior Year Classes:
AP Physics B (but I will take the C Exam)
AP Calculus BC
AP Chemistry
PLTW Digital Electronics
Advanced Writing in Journalism
Introduction to Homeland Security (at Ohio State University)
Government and Business (at Ohio State University)</p>

<p>I will have taken a total of 10 honors classes and 6 APs by graduation. Its pretty much the most challenging schedule that can be taken at my school.</p>

<p>I havent taken the SAT II yet, but my practice scores tell me I am around mid to high 700s for Math II, US History, and Chemistry.</p>

<p>I will apply most likely as a Chem Eng. major. I may double major in Econ but I will at least do a minor in it.</p>

<p>Extracurriculars:

<p>Summer Activities:

  1. Club Baseball at a pretty competitive level (9, 10, 11, 12); it really takes up most of my summers because of all the traveling to tournaments, etc.
  2. Junior Statesman of America Summer School at Georgetown University (12)</p>

<p>I am a pretty good writer so I think my essays will be pretty good. I am confident in my recommendations, and I am good with interviews as well. I will be getting recs from my AP Lang/Comp teacher, Honors Precalc teacher, and an international affairs professor from Millikin University who I had during my summer school at Georgetown. </p>

<p>I know my SAT I scores are a bit low but will solid SAT II scores pick up my app a little bit? Please be honest…</p>

<p>unless you’re good enough to get recruited for baseball or something, I think your chances are still pretty low…you’re well rounded, but your SAT I will definitely hurt, especially compared to the other applicants in the pool
i’d say you have a pretty slim chance…</p>

<p>You have really impressive stats and I don’t think that you should worry too much about your test scores. Yeah, you will get those kids with the perfect test scores but it’s clear that not all of those kids are going to get in. I know tons of kids with perfect scores who got rejected and kids with less impressive stats who did get in. Overall I think you’re definitely a pretty qualified applicant and I think that your extracirriculars makeup for your test scores which could be higher but are fine. However, it’s still impossible to chance you. I’ve been looking at a bunch of chance me threads recently and honestly, you’d be amazed at just how super qualified everyone is, including you. All I can really say is, put a lot of work into your supplement, demonstrate a lot of passion, and good luck! Also, I would recommend visiting the school and attending the Discover Stanford tour before you submit your application. During the second half of the tour there’s a session with an admission officer who explains exactly what they look for in applicants and how they approach the application process. They will also answer individual questions. Not like, “I’ve done this, this, and that. Do you think I’ll get in?” kind of questions but questions that are more like, “I take an interest in this and this. How would you recommend I incorporate that into my essays so that I can truly elaborate on my strengths?” That session helped me a lot.</p>
