Do i have a chance for the Ivies?

I managed to learn to read the language slowly, but in the course of a year, i forgot most of the characters from the lack of use. : (</p>

<p>Oh yeah, I am also a decent drawer.</p>

<p>I have many sketches lying around in my room. I mainly draw landscapes. I try and stay away from colors, using only pencils or sharpies for shading. (I take foreveeerrrr to color!)</p>

<p>And i draw sketches during my freetime. I’ve been thinking about selling sketches, but I just don’t have the inspiration to draw something beautiful numerous times!</p>

<p>Question: should I retake the SAT or take the ACT and see how well I do on that?</p>

<p>I always mess up on the SAT due to a lack of thinking things through. Would that be a problem on the ACT?</p>

<p>Maybe, Each Ivy is a toss-up. Depends on where you want to go.
And whether your essays are good- it seems they might be -b/c of your 12 on essays.
You have a lot of things going for you
commended on PSAT
high class rank
high GPA
and your orchestra awards ( what is BPA and the regional award?)
also the software competiition</p>

<p>Here’s what is against you
low CR score. ( youmight want to retake -but you risk that 800 in math)
very spread out e.c- no distinct passion except orchestra
also that the ivies are extremely competitive.</p>

<p>My advice- apply to a few like BRown. Columbia Northwestern or theYP in HYP - but MAKE SURE you put in safeties you can live with. like NYU ( if you like that kind of thing)
Who knows- maybe you might get in ?

<p>How likely? Who knows. Those schools are like a lottery these days.</p>

<p>The question for you is this: what schools are a good fit with what you want from a college: strong music program? smaller or larger campus? lots of Greek life or none? need small class discussions? want to avoid jocks or preps or nerds? lots of research opportunities? close to home or far away? rural or suburban or city?</p>

<p>That will hone your list down; then pick a few reaches - your Ivies - a few safeties and a few financial safety schools, then roll the dice - er, submit your applications, and you’re all set.</p>

<p>Don’t sweat the stuff you can’t control . . and since you can’t control whether you get accepted into an Ivy or not, just keep doing what you have been doing and getting better at what you do . . it will all work out!</p>

BPA is Business Professionals of America. We just made a software program that kept inventory of a store and also worked as a checkout machine. </p>

<p>We recieved a gold medal for that in regionals and medaled in the State compitition.</p>

<p>And I would say that my real passion is art, because its the one thing i truly enjoy. : )
I quit orchestra just to join the art class in my school!</p>

<p>your academics are good, EC’s pretty solid, but ivies are looking for something like super passionate. Although, i would defintley give you low reach for ivies, definately doable.

<p>oops i didnt quite see the art. if you compose a very nice portfolio and effectively convey your love for art, you could easily make that low reach to high match</p>

<p>Very good GPA and excellent ECs. Most of the Ivies should be mid to low reach, especially if you can bump your SAT just a little bit.</p>

<p>from what I hear ivies really like to see 700+ scores. If you can raise the CR section just 20 points or so that might increase your chances. You have a pretty good shot at some of the less competitive ivies (oxymoron). HYP are a tossup for anybody.</p>

<p>i would try to do a little art for a portfolio- you can always email admissions officers at your top schools and ask them what they would recommend.
i would probably retake the SAT or maybe the ACT- you might do better on that. you won’t know until you take it.
your SAT IIs and ECs look strong, especially the orchestra.
good luck and i think you have a pretty good shot at lower Ivies and schools on that level. the higher ones are practically impossible to predict.
the language thing is really interesting. maybe it could be worked into an essay…?
