Your scores are great… you seem perfect for engineering though… but if ur applying to cas forsure apply as a math or hard science major, that seems to be ur strong suit. Also rock your essays and i would concentrate on ur extra curricular… ur stong math is really good with your competitions… but also maybe emphasize your non profit experience… otherwise looks like as good as shot as anyone for ed cas

Thank you Transfer9858.
I don’t have any thing to show leadership qualities (President of club Or team).
Will that affect my chances?
My GPA is reasonably good but not that great. how will that affect me?

With your gpa, you will have to be at least in the top 10 percent of your grade- if you look at stats, 98 percent of accepted applicants were in top 10 percent, and obviously the other 2 im sure had reasons why their grades suffered or extremely impressive rare stats… The lack of leadership will hurt i wont lie… it all depends how you spin it on your app though… i would focus on math which clearly your amazing in, and your volunteering. If i were you, i would literally tomorrow start a club in your school that helps people find volunteering opportunities within the community… then your president and founder of the club… but more importantly, show the depth of your volonteering, math, and how you played 3 varsity sports which is great. Make your essays very passionate as well, penn is known for that.

Transfer9858, that is a very shallow definition of leadership. It is a much broader idea than you are making it out to be. Just because someone is not the president of 5 clubs does not mean they have not demonstrated leadership in other ways. In fact I think that sort of leadership is really overrated. Admissions wants people who are genuine and committed to what they are doing, they don’t need 2,500 students who all want to be president of everything. I literally had no “leadership positions” when I was in high school, but I showed my passion for certain areas by dedication in other ways. I was a part of a lot of activities where I was part of a team but did my own work and in that respect I really excelled. I did things because I was interested in them, not because I wanted to build it up and start my own club. In the long run, I think I have been happier because of it, and I really think my sincerity shined through in my application to Penn in my recs and definitely in my essays.

My advice would be to put your best self forward and apply. Nothing is guaranteed, but I think in the long run being honest with yourself will take you far, if not to Penn to another great school.

I think you are a great candidate.

I agree with Poeme. Colleges don’t need a laundry list of club presidents who have no significant impact on communities.

Thank you all for your advice. I am in the Top 10% of my grade.
I am working on my essays , will try to incorporate my math competitions and my community work in to it.
