<p>hello. my name is john and i am currently a sophomore at the university at albany. although this is a very fun school (as most of you have probably heard), i do not find it to be as intellectually stimulating as i had previously hoped. i am a biology/biochemistry major and the program seems to be very weak (lack of research opportunities, apathetic faculty, etc.). i’m applying to a bunch of schools to transfer and i was wondering if i should even bother applying to columbia…</p>

<p>i think that my one flaw is the W i took in calculus 1. i chose to withdraw because the class was taught by a professor that hardly spoke english and refused to curve despite the extremely low class average (~52). i was earning a B+ in the course but decided to withdraw and take it at stony brook that summer (since i knew i would get the grade i deserved with any other professor).</p>
