do i have a chance?

<p>hi,
i wanted to no my chances.
-GPA: 3.9

  • I’m taking 2 AP’s, and and the rest are honors courses
  • Sat: 1650, soon to take sat chem, math 2c, and us history
  • in all four years: president of two clubs, secretary of five clubs, in 7 clubs total (NHS)
  • 100 hours of volunteer work ( got an award)+summer job+tutor kids twice a week since 3 years
  • sports: track
    Im going to take my SAT again, and I’m going to aim for a 1800. so how is it??? do you think i can even get into honors program?</p>

<p>Forget the writing portion of the SAT; we don’t use it for admissions purposes, and won’t in 2008 either. The average CR/M SAT score this fall is around a 1240; the average GPA is around a 3.6. Keep up the honors/AP coursework; looks like you’re on the right track there.</p>

<p>Admission will depend on what major you’re applying for; if it’s engineering/computer science or business, it’s going to be a little more restrictive than other majors or if you come in undeclared.</p>

<p>The Honors College this year got 2100 applications, and admitted around 10-15% of those applicants. The average SAT of those students was around a 1420 CR/M combined.</p>

<p>thanks for the replies. but i just checked college board and its says that the writing portion does count. :
SAT Critical Reading: 510 - 610<br>
SAT Math: 570 - 670
SAT Writing: 500 - 600<br>
so would the total math/CR be 1080???
and i want to major in pre-med. i also heard about WISE and another program. what r there stats for admission?? </p>

<p>dude jellybeanz…sbuadmissions is an admissions officer…I think he knows…and also I don’t think those stats are for the honors program</p>

<p>I got in with a 1790 SAT, 25 ACT and 3.2 gpa . It’s more about your overall performance in high school and the courses you took rather than the numbers and percentages. If you know you put in a lot of effort throughout all of high school the admissions officers will see it, even if the average person doesn’t</p>

<p>I think you’re definitely in the running if you reach that 1800 mark (in fact, I think you will get in with the help of your gpa), but I don’t think you’ll get into the Honors College unless you break 2100 (and I’m doubtful you will).</p>

<p>thanks for the comments and advice…but worth2try, no offense, who says I cant reach that 2100??? Nothings impossible and I can have whatever score I want if I just try for it. So don’t be doubtful.</p>

<p>Really… I’m with beanz on this one. Kinda obnoxious to insinuate that some random person you’ve never met can’t reach a certain score on an exam.</p>

<p>Just study and get a good night’s sleep before the exam, jelly. :)</p>

<p>And Steven, as I said above, listing a the three-section SAT score is completely misleading, because we don’t look at the writing section. You are pretty much correct about the rest, though.</p>
