My junior year english teach and physics teacher as well as my guidance counselor have all promised to write excellent recommendations for me. I am very close to my counselor so I know her’s will be excellent, and I did very well in english class. In physics, I was not at the top of the class in grades but I had excellent effort.

INTENDED MAJOR: possibly social work, maybe english…I might want to do pre-law studies

Thanks!

i’m kind of in the same position as you…a bit higher sats and gpa, and a long list of ec’s and whatnot…but from what I understand, top universities don’t really care about anything other than your grades primarily…ik it sucks, but they probably dont give a damn about your list of ecs as much as much as I dont…lol sorry its the truth, I realized that the other day and my life came crashing down on me, ha…good luck

BTW, i just visited wesleyan…they say in their info session they dont “rely” on sats or other test scores…but thats how you’re divided…either you hit the benchmark, around 700 for math and CR or you don’t make it in…

I’m sorry, but I feel strongly enough about the previous poster’s comment that I have to interject. What ze is saying is absolutely not true, from both personal and anecdotal experience. Wesleyan seriously considers essay, recommendations and extracurriculars, probably more than SAT. As a student accepted with 2/3 out of three of my SAT componnents less than 700, I am fairly certain about this.

Apply, what’s the worse that could happen? (I don’t usually do chance threads in general bc admissions is a crapshoot and we don’t get to see some of the most important parts of the app like teacher recs and essays)

Thanks to both of you, and halcyon1, I am still definitely applying. I’m going to visit Wesleyan next week and I hope that I feel as good or better about it after my visit as I do now.

I agree that xctf is wrong. There aren’t SAT cutoffs at Wesleyan, and at Wesleyan (and other small liberal arts schools) they definitely read your entire application closely.

keep in mind that the admit median is 730 (CR), 720 (M), 720 (W)… which means half of the admitted students got below those scores. the median for the matriculating class is 700 for each section… which means that half the class of 2013 scored below 700 on their SAT sections (I know not a rigorous analysis of the data, but enough to suffice I hope).

in other words, even IF wes only used grades and SATs (which they dont, as halcyon1 and madjoy explained), you would still have a great shot with sub-700 scores. dont fret, and just apply!
