Do I have a shot at an Ivy?

So I’m currently in high school Semester 2 of Junior Year and it’s been really rough. My teacher for school went to jail for underage sex so we had a different teacher come in and teach the class. But nonetheless my GPA is horrid as it stands at a 2.672. Freshman year was strong as for Semester 1 I had grades of

A English 9
A PE 9
B Algebra 1
B Chinese 1
B History
C Theater
B Physics

However they have dropped just a little by a D in theatre and science which was chemistry but in Chinese I earned an F because our teacher left for a pregnancy and we had another teacher who barely knew how to teach the class correctly.

Somphmore year my grades fell horribly earning a
Semester 1
D English Honors 10

C Biology

C Geometry

B Theater

C Computer Science I

D APUSH-Teacher went to jail.

My English semester grades did raise to a C in semester two though.

Junior year semester 1 was better because I took college classes that year but ended up failing Chemistry and dropping it.

B Honors English

C Algerbra 2

A College Level Government

C AP Micro Econ

I was thinking of going to an community college after high school for 2 years but for senior year I was going to do a full 2 Semester of college to get my GPA up to par and take summer classes to get into a higher math because I want to major in Computer Science or Engineering.

Is it possible for me to transfer to somewhere like Cornell after the community college and will the 1 year of Senior year college help?

No. You would need to go to a community college or perhaps a state school and get straight As and ace your SAT or ACT and then try to transfer

How many years of CC do you think will help? I heard that longer s college transcript is the less they will care about high school GPA.

“for senior year I was going to do a full 2 Semester of college”

Frankly it doesn’t look to me as if you are ready to take college courses during your senior year of high school.

You need to focus on your classes and work to get your GPA up. This is important to learn the study habits that you will need to do well in the future. Always pay attention in class. Sit near the front if you can. Keep ahead in your homework. If you at least try to do your homework as soon as it is assigned you will pick up a bit, which will help you pick up more in your next class. Seek out help from your teachers where you need it most, for example after school.

The good news is that for computer science you don’t need to go to Cornell nor to any other Ivy League school. Work hard from now on in high school, work hard for your first two years of community college, pick up good study habits and learn to get ahead and stay ahead in your homework and in your studying. With this you should be able to get to a good university to finish your bachelor’s degree and there are plenty of jobs in CS and in engineering.

I would be frank and say No. But that is okay, there are 3000 other colleges in the US. Find the ones that are right for you. I would start with 2 years CC and then your State U.

This is a confusing and confused post.

If I were the OP I’d be more worried about graduating HS than Ivy admission. The OP is getting C’s in math and science classes and flunked a chem class. Yet, for some reason, he/she wants to go into CS or engineering. I suspect that is the default goal kids say these days because they are hot fields, the way they mentioned law school or work on Wall Street a few years back. I doubt the OP has given much real thought to the field or knows whether or not it is a fit, and the C grade in the CS class does not bode well for a CS career.

I have no idea why the OP wants to replace the senior year of HS with " 2 Semester of college to get my GPA up to par". What does this even mean?

My advice is this: worry about what is right in front of your nose instead of musing about the by-and-by. Go visit your teachers from last semester and ask what they think you need to do to improve. Then, right now, start doing those things and see if you can improve your grades 2nd semester of junior year. In other words live in the present and don’t distract yourself with daydreams of Ivy 3 years down the road and plans for senior year of HS (conveniently 8 months away).

Ivy league is not going to happen. Instead, I would just focus on getting into college. Community college is the most obvious choice. If you’re going into computers, you don’t need an elite school to do that. You just need the degree and some proficiency in a mainstream programming language. In fact, most CS majors end up working in IT jobs and never do a math problem for their whole career.

You may want to write a compelling essay about the distraction you suffered when those teachers went to jail. If you are a victim, you should explain the grades in an essay. I am so sorry you suffered through this. You are not alone. Do your best to move forward.
