Do I have a shot for ED Cornell, Princeton, UChicago? Give me a reality check

Here are my stats:

**Will be applying as an international student even though I live in the USA, as I’m here on a visa and am in the process of getting a greencard

Will major in ENGINEERING (not sure what kind though)

GPA: 3.8 Unweighted
ACT: 34
(Didn’t take SAT)
Grades: Very strong upward trends, did poorly in freshman year because I came to the U.S at that time and had to deal with the radical changes, I got A’s sophomore year onwards

11 AP classes, I got a 3 on AP Chem and 4s and 5s on everything else

Extracurriculars:

1) Taught myself how to code without any help
2) Have made and published software and apps, have over 100,000 users. Most of the apps are free but I do get some revenue.
3) Made apps for companies including BlackBerry, Amazon, and Google.
4) Volunteered significantly freshman year trying to increase cleanliness and improve health conditions in desolate parts of India
5) Plenty of FBLA hours, was an officer senior year
6) President of School’s DECA chapter
7) Member of Math Varsity team, Science team
8) Research and invest in the stock market, My research is independent and based on algorithms

I think my essay will be pretty good, teacher recs will be decent but not phenomenal. I haven’t finished writing my essay yet and am still in the rough draft, will improve it by the time I apply

*Will be applying for international financial aid, but can attend even if not given any

*I’m the first in my family to attend college in the U.S. And I’m muslim by the way, although I don’t think that makes any difference

 • Relatively low income family, around $50k per year in the U.S,

Anyway, do you think I have a shot at any of these colleges? Where do you think I should apply? Thanks for any opinions

Additional info: Applying from an ordinary public high school in Wisconsin, didn’t have the opportunity for internships and employment due to me not having an SSN

Anyone?

Someone help me out here, please?

I feel like Cornell is within range (provided the upward trend) - the others, though, I can’t say with certainty.

UChicago and Princeton are just really hard to tell. My suggestion is also apply to UVA, W&M and UNC or if you prefer private, Wake Forest.

Is Uchicago harder to get into then Cornell?

Showing your struggle will definitely increase your chances, definitely use that to your advantage. ECs are amazing and show how you take amazing initiative. You have a good chance at all of these schools.

You may have a good chance at Cornell.Princeton and UChicago will be reaches. You have a good chance at all the schools,so make sure to write solid essays. Best of Luck~

Hey don’t worry, you are definitely competitive. No one can chance correctly with the top 20 schools, but you are in the right area, especially with your ECs. Cornell is considered the easier Ivy to get into, Princeton is a crapshoot, and Chicago focuses more on your essays. So you have a chance to all three of them, moreso Chicago if you write an awesome essay.

I think you have a shot at all of these schools. Your gpa and ACT is in the range and you also took a lot of AP’s.

Yeah, Chicago is much harder to get in than Cornell

You’ll most likely get into Cornell since you applied ED and are very qualified, but in the case that you don’t, you still have a good chance RD. Princeton will be a reach for you just because it is currently the #1 school in the country and is expecting a 34 or above from all their applicants. UChicago is a high match/low reach but you should take into account that they weigh heavily on your essays so make sure those are very well written.

If you really intend to major in engineering, double check what University of Chicago offers and if it has ABET accredited majors. And if you don’t know what type you should also look into schools that have a wide variety of engineering offerings, which tend to be mid-size and larger schools. As far as your chances? When you are in that tier of schools it’s very hard to predict. They get far more applications from kids who are all well qualified than they can accept. You should try, but also broaden your search as well.

Yeah I just checked and UChicago doesn’t offer engineering

I think you have a reasonable chance at these schools. ED at Cornell is obviously the most likely (around a 15% chance) and the others are in the 10% ballpark. These schools are reaches for everyone except gifted athletes, so don’t be discouraged. Best of luck to you.

^Thanks for the opinions everyone so far

I don’t know much about Princeton or Cornel, but my brother goes to UChicago and tells me that there are many people with similar stats to you. I think you have a good shot!

I would say that your stats are within the ranges for all these schools, but your chances are probably best for Cornell due to their higher acceptance rate. I you are able to you should definately consider applying to more schools with top engineering programmes, just to improve your chances. Good luck!

I think that you have a good chance at these, though with Princeton you can never tell. Good luck!

UChicago :Low Match
Cornell :Low Match
Princeton :Reach

Try your best dude, hope you can get into one of them…
