I graduated in civil engineering with bachelor degree. After graduation I worked for a steel structure company as designer. By chance I joined in a law firm as an assistant for a partner who specializes in real estate& construction field. Moreover I passed the bar exam and became an attorney-at-law in China. Naturally my specialization is real estate&construction. I have dealt with a large number of litigation or nonlitigation in terms of construction including construction dispute resolution, claims, construction contract negotiation and drafting. I have rich experience in construction and real estate field of China. During working I realize there is a wide gap in construction management between China and developed country. I want to further study advanced knowledge on construction management from developed country since I have a strong intest in it. However, I have a question whether I can apply for the master degree of construction management as I am a Chinese lawyer though I have a bachelor degree in civil engineering and I specialize in real estate&construction legal field. I appreciate you very much if I can recieve your advise.

Most construction management programs, at least in Canada, tend to be taught separately from Civil Engineering in community colleges. Certainly, if you have qualifications in Civil Engineering there is no reason you cannot pursue this program of study.

In the United States, some colleges teach construction management within the Civil Engineering Department, and others teach it separately. The former usually have civil engineering bachelor’s degree as a prerequisite, which you have, so I can’t see any problems either.

Thank you for the reply from toronto_guy and ken285. Now I have no doubt that I will apply for master degree of construction management. My dream school is UT-Austin, and do you two guy have any suggestion or information for me if I apply for UT?
