Do I have the slightest chance of getting in?

<p>Hi guys. So basically, I’m way below the level of a person that normally would get into Cornell (2080 SAT, 3.4 GPA), but there were a couple of hooks in my application that I’m wondering if will help me at all.</p>

<p>First of all, for my primary choice, I applied as a film major. I figure how many people apply to Cornell for film as it’s not really what they’re known for. Will that matter at all? Film is also a decent part of my common app with it being my leading extracurricular and it being what my short answer question was about.</p>

<p>Second of all, for my second choice, I applied to the school of hotel administration. Is it less competitive at all? I also wrote what I though was a pretty good essay for it all about how I’ve noticed all these little things in the ways that hotels work and I’ve always been fascinated by it.</p>

<p>So let me know if these two things will make a difference at all because I know with my GPA being what it is I’m almost definitely not going to get accepted.</p>

<p>how much did you get in ur CR and M?
2080 is like missing 2100 by 1 question… which is a theoretical mid-50-percent match for Cornell and other Ivys… letting you know</p>

<p>and Cornell sees only your CR and M… their range is 1280 - 1490/1600. I got a 1400 so im applying for engineering. I think you shouldn’t worry too! </p>

<p>oh… and if it helps… my friend got into stanford (chemistry) with a 2020… so its not only SAT that they like and choose.</p>

<p>a) No, applying as a film major will not help your chances. Because CAS does not accept by major, your intended major has no bearing on your application.</p>

<p>b) No, the hotel school is also not easier to get into. It may be easier academically, but it requires significant hotel/restaurant/sales experience and a well-demonstrated passion for the hospitality industry.</p>
