I have applied to Columbia, Cornell, Colgate, Syracuse, Fordham, and New York University. It is $16 to send to every school and $25 just to create an account. I don’t have much money, so is this important to fill out or forget about it. I mean doesn’t Cornell and Columbia give you full grant if your parents make less than 60k. So what do you think?
Yes, you have to submit the CSS Profile for any school that requires it.
If a school requires the profile you won’t get any institutional aid without submitting it. They determine your need from the info you provide on the profile.
@rosered55 @annoyingdad
So basically, i am going to be spending $105. Is it really worth it?
How low income are you? Do you get free or reduced lunch? Do you qualify for any waivers?
Regarding spending $105…if you are low income and you get $30,000 or more of need based aid by completing the Profile…would the $105 be worth it? That is an excellent return on investment, don’t you think? And if you don’t complete the Profile, and you get accepted…you won’t get a penny of aid. So is the $105 worth it?
You spend $105. The college gives you thousands of dollars in grants and scholarships. Is it worth it?
It’s up to you - do you want financial aid?
Ok, it is worth it.
Just one last thing. For example, Syracuse University, with all the money they will give, I doubt it will be 30K in financial aid. The school is 50k, so i will still need to pay 20k from my pocket.
And I am very poor.
Did you run the net price calculators on these college websites? They will give you an indication of the aid you could receive. Do that.
Do you have competitive stats for admission to schools like Columbia and Cornell?
Did,you also apply to some less costly schools that don’t require the Profile?
You need to find out if you qualify for waivers so that you don’t have to pay.
I really am hoping that you applied to some additional more attainable schools as well. Your GPA and SAT score were not as strong as those typically seen by accepted students at these schools…particularly Columbia and Cornell.
Are you instate for NY? If so, if you are low income, you would likely be TAP eligible, and also might get a Pell Grant…depending on your FAFSA EFC. And you would get a $5500 Direct Loan as well. This would make a SUNY as a commuter affordable. It would not fund the others.
You are concerned about aid at syracuse…but you should have the same concerns for NYU, and Fordham as well as they do not guarantee to meet full need either.
I have taken the SAT for free and I get free lunch, so are they waived?
And my parents make about 20k all together. So how much, on average, will the schools give me?
I believe you would be eligible for a Profile waivers. Contact the college board and ask.
And I have applied to a 4 suny schools. Also cuny schools.
Whew!
ohh i guess i do qualify for a fee waiver. thanks guys
