I just went to my college, Irvine Valley College, and no such thing exists since it’s already noted on the transcript.

What do I do?

I just went to my college, Irvine Valley College, and no such thing exists since it’s already noted on the transcript.

What do I do?

They gave you wrong info, @burntcorpse. It’s not enough that it is noted on transcript. You have to request certification. It’s a separate process. Final transcripts are due to UC by July 1, IGETC certifucation by July 15.

My daughter requested both and got an email from her CC that BOTH were sent. She’s still waiting for verification that the UC got them.

Go back to admissions and find someone who gets it. The form also may be online at your CC website.

I just quickly grabbed a link from, I think, diablo valley college. Look at last point:

http://www.dvc.edu/org/departments/counseling/FAQ%20for%20IGETC.pdf

@burntcorpse Here is the Irvine Valley College link. Look at bottom. It mentions IGETC certification and that the form is in admissions office. This is what’s wrong with the system, misinformed advisors:

http://www.ivc.edu/student/transfercenter/Documents/IGETC%20General%20Education%20Pattern.pdf

@BurntCorpse How badly do you regret not accepting UCSB’s admission offer?

@CollegeDropout1 You can’t submit the IGETC cert online? I just “registered” for IGETC certification online and it was officiated a couple weeks later. That’s crazy that they would make you go in and apply for it in-person.

@lindyk8

The link you provided to my school is a preliminary advising form, which allows me to get IGETC certified, but the thing is, the certification is noted on the transcript itself. There’s no diploma, degree, or physical paper that says, “BurntCorpse is certified by the State of California as an IGETC qualified transfer student.”

I’m going to try and call the counseling office on Monday and see what they say.

@CollegeDropout1

Well, since UCLA literally f’ed me, I’m feeling pretty pissed off right now. I can no longer major in what I want because most of the major courses aren’t offered anymore.

Serves me right for having hope that maybe, just maybe, I could major in something I’m genuinely interested in.

UCLA cancelled a class in the Fall that is rarely, if ever, offered. They only offered this class TWICE within the past 4 years. There are other classes that are never offered anymore too, but I rather no go in depth since I’m already depressed as ■■■■.

I don’t understand why UCLA has a major in which they don’t even offer courses for. They might as well close the ■■■■■■■ department and discontinue the majors and minors.

@BurntCorpse What was your major?

@CollegeDropout1

Philosophy, but I was planning on switching to Ancient Near East and Egyptology, and taking Ancient Egypt related courses, which are never offered anymore.

@CollegeDropout1

I only applied and submitted my SIR to UCLA because of this major. I couldn’t apply for it directly since this major has been “closed” for 2-3 years, and was recently reopened for some reason.

@BurntCorpse They probably canceled the class because of lack of demand. They probably suspended the major for the same reason. If you went to SB, what were you going to major in, philosophy?

@CollegeDropout1

Yea…

@CollegeDropout1

The reason I want to go to UCSB is because I feel cheated, but of what? No classes are guaranteed at UCLA, so at this point, I’m just being a pissy little beyotch who wants to beat the crap out of homeless people with a spatula

In layman’s terms, I’m pissed off and acting irrationally.

@BurntCorpse HAHAHAH, you’re funny! You should prank call that idiot. UCLA is really close to the beach, and it has a good party scene, maybe it is not like SB’s, but at least it is not like SD’s You made a great choice.

Maybe you can minor in it?

Also, it may be they bundled it here:
<a href=“Study Area - New Student Academic Programs”>Study Area - New Student Academic Programs;

@BurntCorpse about the IGETC certification: Did you previously complete and file the “certification form, Application for Graduation Evaluation” which is mentioned at the bottom of that advising form? (I assume that’s the only way you could’ve gotten an IGETC notation on your transcript.) If so, I think you’re probably OK if you just send your transcript with that notation.

I think every CCC has a slightly different process for how they handle IGETC certification. Some have a separate piece of paper that they send in the same envelope as the transcript, but others just put the same information on the transcript itself.

For example, see [Cabrillo College](Useful Forms - Cabrillo College):

@keelnailed

Yea, I already filled that out, had it reviewed by a counselor, was given a “go” and turned it into admissions. I was certified in January, but no diploma/degree/paper was mailed to me.

I was told that the notation at the bottom of the transcript is proof that I am IGETC certified, so I don’t know what to do. Do I sent “two” transcripts? One as a transcript and the other as “IGETC certification?” That seems redundant and pointless…

So you filled out a form for certification? That’s all I was talking about - the IGETC certification form. They don’t mail you anything. They handle it internally and send to the UC. So you did it already.
