After all this conversation about IGETC, I got nervous about mine. My school just does a notation or something on the transcript. I called UCLA yesterday, and the verified that they had my complete IGETC.

Notation, form, gold-plated certificate it doesn’t matter :-)

But call on Monday for your own peace of mind.

Yeah, being my OCD self, this sort of discrepancy in the way they’re done is a bit of a nail-biter. It would be more civilized if it was a uniform process.

So we only have to send igetc cert from one cc? the one you last attended before transfer?

I’m asking this because I attended only two cc’s. the 2nd one I only took one course and I already got my igetc cert submitted with one transcript (my main cc) . Do I have to request for igetc certification to be sent from the 2nd college as well?

I haven’t sent in the paperwork to get my IGETC certified yet. I know the deadline isn’t until July 15th to have it sent in, but is it bad that I’ve put it off until recently?

I’ll go on Tuesday to my community college to have that done.

@2016Candles

Where do you call to verify that UCLA has received your IGETC certification?

Hey @cayton, I now have read two things: first that the UCs are fine with IGETC being late (not sure how much) and now about an hour ago, swear to God, I just read on another UC site that as long as IGETC gets there by orientation it is OK. I wouldn’t say stretch it out, but just maybe call, let them know, and it should be fine.

So did everything work out? :)

So, @2016candles, you know IGETC got there? My daughter is waiting. She said a verification email, or something on the MyUCLA will show up. Did you call?

Did everything work out? You mean with my classes? In that case, I haven’t received all of my grades yet, but based on what has unfolded in them over the past few weeks, I’d say I have a 90% chance that I won’t get any C’s this semester, which is great. I strongly doubt I’ll be put in a position where I’ll have to report excessive low grades to UCLA. :)

I’ll let everyone know what my grades will be when they’re all posted, but I’m optimistic and think I’ll be fine.

It’s hard for me to imagine it too. At first I thought I’d get two C’s, which would definitely be a problem, and now I expect to get, at worst, one C.

I regret making that “Will UC__ rescind…” thread. I got 20 notifications one day and thought @Cayton had given out my username advertising that I’d give a free lap dance to the first 20 private messengers

@mikemac "yes and no. IGETC exempts you from having to take the actual set of classes required for satisfying the breadth requirement at your UC. However it is not the case that “you will have to redo the breadth requirements” or that it will take “an extra two years of college”.

What they will do is use ASSIST to see what classes in the required set at the UC you have already satisified, and then you’ll have to take the ones that are missing. Its hard to imagine a situation where you have satisfied none of the classes which would mean it would take 2 years to finish them. There is no redo of classes that are part of your UC’s breadth, you just take the ones you are missing.

The reason IGETC exists is the complete set of classes that would satisfy all the breadth requirements at every UC is more than it is possible to take in 2 years at a CC while also becoming eligible for admission to your major. You’re bound to be missing an art class this UC requires or an English class that one requires. IGETC is an alternative to satisfying the actual set of breadth classes at each UC, but if you don’t use IGETC you are likely to be missing only a class or two."

does this mean that, let’s say you don’t complete IGETC completely but get accepted into a UC. does this mean you have to complete the courses you didn’t finish that pertain to IGETC, or complete the courses that are missing from that particular UC’s GE requirements?

for example, let’s say you get into berkeley but you didn’t finish IGETC. once you’re at berkeley, do you have to take the missing courses you need to complete IGETC, or do you need to take the courses you need to complete UC Berkeley’s 7-course breadth requirement/or other Cal college’s specific GE requirements?
