Do I have to pay TAP back?

I transferred out of my previous school during the summer and have been at my current school for a semester. I didn’t receive TAP at my current school because I made a mistake on my form and still listed the old school. I also didn’t drop the classes I was suppose to take at the old school. The thing is the TAP at my old school was withheld and wasn’t spent (since I technically had an attendance problem there and wasn’t eligible). The school has the right to withhold the money (but won’t spend it atleast) and can’t give it to me for my new school.

Do I still have to pay the TAP back to HESC? When I spoke with a woman from HESC she said I was signed up to receive TAP for the spring at my current school and didn’t mention that I had to pay anything back. I’m just concerned because I don’t want to be ineligible for TAP for the spring semester.

if you widnot formally withdraw what will probably happen is that HESC will take the money from the school and you may end up owing the college.

Also since there is a limit on how to long you can get TAP, you may end up falling short some time in the future

I did formally withdraw last week.

Since I withdrew I owe $5000 to the school. They won’t use the TAP to pay the debt though. They have the right to keep at their wish.

If TaP paid the school and depending on when you withdrew you may not have met satisfactory academic progress making you ineligible to receive tap or federal aid. The only people who can give you a definitive answer is your financial aid office.

You can only attend one school at a time. Are you saying that you were enrolled in college A, did not attend class, withdrew last week and are now looking to attend college B next term?

There is a strong possibility that you may not receive tap at school b because you did not meet SAP at school A. Since TAP only allows a student one school at a time it is going to be very easy for them to see your record.
