Do I Have To Submit 2 PFS Forms?

My parents are divorced but share custody. On the Parents Financial Statement all the questions relate to my mothers household and hers only. Does that mean that I have to submit and pay for two, one for each household, or that my fathers household is irrelevant regarding financial aid as that is not my primary residence.

If it matters then my mother does not receive any alimony, the laws here are different than in the US.

Also the application does not allow me to NOT choose a state in the US or territory in Canada so in order too proceed I put that I live in Florida, My Country. Will that make my app invalid?

First, I know the PFS allows you to select a country. I don’t know what happens if you simply refuse to also select a state. Does it refuse to process the form? If so, send an email to NAIS and ask what to do. There’s a “Support” button at the top right corner of the page that gives both a telephone number and email address.

Second, regarding your father . . . his information is absolutely required. The form clearly provides several places for you to enter information about a second parent, whether you are living with him or not. So, start at the beginning of the form and answer every question that refers to a second parent or second household. His information must be included. (And, no, a second PFS is NOT needed!) You will also have to provide tax returns or other financial documentation for both him and your mother. If you provide proof of income for your mother only, and not your father, the schools may refuse to process your application.

I don’t know your particular circumstances, of course. There may be a situation that makes your father’s information unnecessary. All I know is that it is usually required, regardless of whether or not he pays support.

If you have a question about the form itself, contact NAIS. If you have a question regarding your family’s particular circumstances, contact the school’s financial aid office and ask them what you should do.

Hope that helps!

A second PFS is required if parents are divorced or never married. I just spoke with NAIS to confirm this for my own situation. Each parent needs to ensure that information about the student (i.e., name of student, birth date, name of school(s) to which they are applying) is the same on each PFS.
