Do I have to take Econ 1 (2 or 3)?

I think I already know the answer to this, but wanted to confirm… on the about page for my intended major, it says “All four classes (Math 53, Math 54, Econ 1, 2 or 3 and UGBA 10) must be completed prior to acceptance to the major and all must be taken for a letter grade.”

However, I tested out of “Econ 1, 2 or 3” because I got 5s on the AP Macro and Micro exams. It says that all courses must be taken for a letter grade, but I really hope that is not the case - I have heard that econ 1 is one of the most failed classes at Cal, and I seriously want to avoid it!

FYI: major is ORMS

Contact the IEOR department (that runs the ORMS major) to find out whether 5 on both AP economics exams may be substituted for Economics 1.

Economics 1 should not be that hard a course. However, many of the students taking it are aiming for GPA-sensitive or competitive admission majors (business, economics, ORMS), so there may be considerable grade competition, with some students seeing any non-A grade as “failed”.
