Do I have too many schools on my list?

Tops academically:
Harvard
Princeton
U Chicago

Techie:
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
California Institute of Technology
Harvey Mudd College

Big University, with bigness advantages:
Northwestern
Cornell

Middle Size, good overall:
Carnegie Mellon
WUSTL

Small LAC like, with smallness advantages:
Rice
Carnegie Mellon

Safety – honors program
Penn State
University of Pittsburgh
Rutgers

And am I too spread out?

I dont know you safeties seems more like matches to me,but i don’t know Pennslyvannia schools very well. Anyways you seem like you don’t have a clue what major you want to do in collge because you’re a bit spread out with schools like caltech, yet you have Northwestern, which are kinda opposites.

i think you have too many schools and should delete one from each section…talk about a dilemma, but that’s what I’m doing now.

This is a good place to start visiting. I would recommend visiting a big one and a small one to see if you can narrow it down at least by size a bit for applying.
Otherwise you are looking at well over $600 in application fees.

i counted 15 schools on your list, and honestly i think i was in a similar position with the number of schools i had on my list but i ended up narrowing it down to 11 which still ended up being a lot of work. i think you should really see what you want as far as environment and the overall feel of the university and ask yourself if you can honestly see yourself at that particular university

Too many colleges: No
Too spread out: Yes

You have schools represantative of just about every major “group” of colleges. I would strongly advise you to do some soul searching and decide what you want in a college. Then, concentrate on schools that fall within that group. As Tarun said, try to decide if you could actually see yourself attending the colleges on your list. Good luck.
