Im filling out my common app and I was wondering to I list my mom’s boyfriend as my stepfather on common app. They’re not married but they have been together since 2019. He does live in my house and helps with the finance. I do plan on applying for financial aid so I dont want to jeopardize anything.
No, on Common Ap, but seek assistance for rules on FAFSA. Personally, I wouldn’t list him on anything, but not sure of exact rules. Do you live in his home? Does he provide financial support to you and your mother?
Please seek out expert help in the financial aid area, as any wrong decision might cost you thousands of dollars in aid.
@kelsmom can tell you about financial aid. But this person is NOT your stepdad, and actually legally is not a family member as your mom and he are not married.
For financial aid purposes, your mom’s boyfriend’s financial information is not reported on any forms (FAFSA or CSS Profile). If he marries your mom while you are still in college, his income information would be considered (something they may want to consider if they are thinking about possibly getting married … they may want to wait until you are out of college).
