do i need these things for med programs?

I’m weak in several areas; i have like no big prizes (like isef, or siemens) or scholarships, and etc. I don’t believe i have the unique ecs that would make me stand out. All i’ve got is like hospital volunteering, which everybody has, and i hope i get good grades, scores, but EVERBODY has good grades + scores, so they aren’t enough to get me in any top tier med programs. kinda depressed and despondent… plz help what can i do?? :frowning: :(

hey man, i haven’t applied to colleges yet so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Just try to follow your passion in medicine and figure out ways in which u can get involved with biology and medicine. perhaps find a shadowing job or do some research. get an article published on cancers or stem cells. work at the hospital. just do what you believe in now what will help u get in college. find something unique that relates to you and that u can honestly have a good time doing.

bump…

I got into PLME with no big prizes or scholarships; my medical-related ECs were volunteering and a couple internships with hospitals… so it’s definitely possible

^well…what do you think were you strong points?

and what were your test scores

think we’re better off just pm’ing him?

I suppose my PLME-specific essays were my strong points; I’d say they were pretty good, but not ground-breaking or anything. I can post them eventually. I have pretty good grades (ranked 4th out of around 500 at a competitive public school), pretty good test scores (2330 SAT I, 800/800/800 SAT II, 6 AP 5s), and have a nice balance of ECs (varsity sport, clubs, etc), I think. But definitely, I’m not a superstar or anything like that. I hope that can provide a little bit of perspective. I’ll try to go into detail about my app later on

wow thanks for the information

I had nothing special when i applied either, didn’t even have many hospital volunteering hours (I only started the summer between junior and senior year). What they look for is a genuine interest in medicine, so work on your essays.

Hey, JonWayne, what programs did you get into and what are your stats?

1540/34

as you might already know: slu, psu, gppa, comeap

I notice you haven’t been late to 1st period these days :)

^I take it you two know each other. Congratz on the scores and colleges jon
