do i need to apply to more schools??

85% SSAT. 32% acceptance rate.
taft: ?% SSAT. 30% acceptance rate.

taft is considered just a tad below the very top schools…

maybe not VERY competitive… but sinificantly competitive. it’s one of the “select 16” and everyone in Newport regards it as very hard to get in to, so i dont know.

That’s because everyone in Newport are not very qualified compared to kids who apply to places like AESDCH. My friends Serena and Eliza are both applying, and they have low 60s and high 70s SSATs.

…people who reside in newport aren’t qualified to go to AESDCH?

No, but consider this: let’s say that not everybody in Newport applies to AESDCH. Newport’s public school SSAT average is, say, 75 percent. That’s just a random number, OK? These kids with 75 SSATs are going to find St. George’s competitive, but kids from all over the globe, not just ones in a tiny little concentrated area, are not.

right.

i’m applying to: Tabor, Taft, SGS, (and POSSIBLY Blair)
…do you think i will get in to at least one? or should i apply to a school like northfield mount hermon or something that’s pretty definite.

I wish schools would look at your national percentile. It makes me feel like I actually did well! My national percentiles were all in the nineties.

blairt, you are the most paranoid person on this forum; you also have a hard time thinking for yourself. I think there is a direct line from your brain to your keyboard regarding any paltry question that occurs to you regarding boarding school. You don’t THINK for yourself before you type your question. Look at some of the threads you have started: exeter app, parents backgrounds, do I need to apply to more schools, etc.

yeah i know. but they need to distinguish the very smart from brilliant from the other-worldly brilliant, though. everyone who goes to boarding school is basically in the top 2% nationally i would say…

we are such a stupid country… our public system is so behind. i just wrote a 10 page paper on that! lol.

I disagree. If you’re taking about only Andover, Exeter, St. Paul’s, Choate, Deerfield, etc., then yes, I agree with you, but if you are talking about EVERYONE who goes to EVERY boarding school on earth then I definitely disagree. Think about all of the boarding schools in Europe (specifically France and Switzerland) that offer admission to pretty much everyone who can pay the tuition. There’s also a lot of boarding schools for LD or troubled kids.

“nationally” college prep boarding school. yes, def. if you got in the 90th percentil for 40% on ssat’s then, 65% would prob be around 98%…“nationally” doesn’t mean much here in america. we’re really not as educated as we would like to think.

just an opinion.

well my national percentiles were Verbal - 90% Reading - 92% and Math - 95%

on my SSAT’s it was 50% V, 50% R, and 31% M.

I thought it was kind of odd that my math was so low on the SSAT and it was the highest on my national percentile.

yeah… americans are particularly less-apt with math and science… i spent a whole page on that in my paper.

J1, have you taken a practice test since?

Hey J1, report to the GCG and take the A-F out of the Mirocrapter.

His name is Jonathan.

Nope .

national percentile means nothing to adcoms…

What ?

Blair said J1 so it was kind of like code language, because he didn’t say “Jonathan”

Jonathan, take the ISEE’s. The scores are completely based off of other people your age taking the test.

It’s bad if you’re older and taking the test, but it’s awesome if you’re younger and doing it.

yeah, being 16 sucks when taking the test.

i’m getting soo old.

lol.
