Do I need to have straight A's in my Major courses?

Hey guys,
I just finished my second semester of college, and my intent is to receive a degree in International Relations.
I took my first Intro to IR class this semester and I got an A-.
I’ve been browsing these forums and everyone seems to sound like you need to have an A in ever single one of your intent major classes. "
My class was rather difficult, my professor had one of the lowest ranks on ratemyprofessor.com (like a 1.8). He curved every single one of the grades because the class averages on the midterm and final were like 56 out of 100.
On the midterm I got kind of low (74), but I remade it on the Final (got a 99).
That and effective speech (also hard professor) are the only two that I have gotten A-'s in. The rest are straight A’s. My GPA for the semester is a 3.89 on 18 credits, which isn’t bad right? It was a big boost from last semester where I receive a 2.88 on 15 credits. (I Posted a thread a while back saying why I did so bad: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-life/620432-welp-i-screwed-over-my-first-semester.html</a>)
Thanks guys.

I don’t know…3.89. I think you should try a little harder next semester.

Really? When most people consider a 3.7 to be good?

Well I’m not sure, maybe they did mediocre on gen eds, but got A’s in their major courses?
Not sure

I’m gonna work hard next semester to try to achieve a 4.00, wish me luck.

are you guys kidding? 3.8 is horrible. as ash said…maybe this guy should try harder
…

Lol don’t listen to some of the kids on this forum, a lot of them seem to be neurotic overachievers. A 3.8 in college is amazing any way you look at it (but you already know that!)

Don’t listen to Kaley, she’s obviously an A- student…

No, you don’t have to, but it may be nice.

All these other people are phonies. It’s one thing to offer advice, and another to be demeaning.

The walls are closing in
You stayed too long in school
I’d rather stay a child
And keep my self-respect
If being an adult
Means being like you

Are you really you, you, you
You, you, you, you, you, you
Are you really you?
No!

You’re a chained-up dog, fenced in a yard
Don’t see much, you can’t go far
Pace and froth; you’re getting sick
Run too fast and it’ll snap your neck

You say you’ll break out
But you never do
You’re just another ant in the hill
That’s your Life Sentence…

Does International Relations have a grammar component?

People on this site just do not understand sarcasm. I don’t think Colboy was being serious…get a grip.

College Confidential forums: Roosting place of the true uber geeks but also those who lie about their abilities/accomplishments to demoralize the competition.

I think your grades will drastically drop if you don’t increase your reading comprehension.

Nope.
As an employer I want to see that you have good inteligence, I don’t expect to see a 4.0 and actually when I do interview kids with 4.0 GPAs i spend more time because too often they are not good employees, they are trained to be grade grubbers.
Any adult knows how one stupid little slip can push someone to less than an ‘A’.

You will obviously be unemployed if your GPA is less than 4.0. Give up now.

Sarcasm and other subtleties don’t exactly jump out of the screen at you like in a face-to-face conversation. Well, that may not be the case if you spend your life on the Internet.
